The left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation model is the gold‑standard surgical platform for inducing ischemic myocardial infarction (MI) in rodents, rabbits, and large animals. By performing a permanent or transient (ischemia‑reperfusion, I/R) occlusion of the LAD at a defined anatomical branch point, this procedure generates a reproducible, transmural infarct zone that closely mimics clinical ST‑segment elevation MI.
