Model Description Mice carrying two copies of the Insrtm1Dac mutation (homozygotes) die within 48-72 hours after birth from diabetic keto-acidosis, characterized by fatal weight loss through dehydration and protein wasting. Although embryonic development proceeds normally with no obvious anatomical defects, heterozygous carriers display mild insulin resistance.
