| Description | Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (BBMVEC) from Ace Therapeutics are isolated from microvessels of the bovine brain. The cells are cryopreserved at the second passage. |
| Applications | The Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (BBMVEC), a model for studying the blood-brain barrier (BBB), allows researchers to investigate the transport of drugs across the blood-brain barrier, examine brain endothelial cell tight junctions, and explore the basic biology of brain microvascular endothelial cells more effectively. The endothelial cells in this system exhibit tight junctions (positive for proteins ZO-1 and Claudin-1) and have transport characteristics similar to those found in the blood-brain barrier (such as P-glycoprotein function). Therefore, it can be used in initial ADME-Tox screening assays to determine if test compounds are likely to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. |
| Quality Control | Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (BBMVEC) test negative for bacteria, yeast, fungi, and mycoplasma. |
| Shipping and Storage | Ace Therapeutics ships frozen cells using dry ice. Upon receiving the frozen cells, immediately move them into liquid nitrogen (-180 °C) for storage. Note: Never can cells be kept at -20 °C, and repeated freezing and thawing of cells is not recommended. |

| BBM-C-122 | Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells |
Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells (HBMECs), derived from the human brain, are a specific type of brain endothelial cells that play a crucial role in forming the blood-brain barrier (BBB). They prevent the entry of soluble and cellular substances from the blood into the brain and protect it against toxins and immune cells. These brain microvascular endothelial cells have the ability to display cell adhesion molecules on their surface, which control the migration of leukocytes into the brain. Nevertheless, when there are host-pathogen interactions outside the cells, it can activate calcium signaling within the endothelial cells, leading to the penetration of pathogens through the BBB.
Human Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells from Ace Therapeutics are isolated from normal human brain cortical tissue. Each vial contains at least 5×10^5 cells per ml and is delivered frozen.
