Physiological Monitoring Service in Animal Models of Stroke

In experimental stroke models, tighter monitoring and control of key physiologic variables is needed. Because body/brain temperature is highly correlated with stroke outcome, variability in temperature (intra- and post-ischemic periods) can lead to significant variability in outcomes. In addition, hypotension, hyperglycemia, hypoxia, fever, and hydration, are parameters that may also exacerbate brain injury. Control of these abnormal physiological parameters can serve as a form of neuroprotection that may enhance the viability of ischemic neural tissue.

Physiological Monitoring Service

At Ace Therapeutics, we offer physiological monitoring services tailored specifically for animal models of stroke. Our highly skilled personnel can perform complex physiological monitoring during stroke (e.g., evoked potential monitoring, electroencephalography, arterial blood gases, blood pressure, blood glucose, lactate, and hemoglobin measurements) and can issue complete lab reports. Our state-of-the-art facilities ensure accurate measurement of these physiologic parameters.

During the procedure, we are able to control the following parameters:

  • Cerebral blood flow (CBF) with laser Doppler flow meter to control ischemia
  • Blood parameters: arterial blood pressure, blood gases, blood glucose
  • Body temperature

We can also track these parameters in awake animals after a stroke episode:

  • Measurement of body/brain temperature using telemetry
  • Measurement of blood glucose using a glucose monitor
  • Measure arterial blood pressure using a tail-sleeve volume tracing method

All of these measurements can be taken simultaneously at multiple time points in the same animal. We can combine these measurements can be analyzed in conjunction with neurological examinations, neurobehavioral, neurochemical, and neuropathological, also performed in the same animal.

Ace Therapeutics allows for the simultaneous collection of multiple physiological and behavioral parameters from experimentally winded animals in a non-invasive manner. Once data collection is complete, all acquired data is categorized to provide clients with intuitive and accurate results.
